LIBN: Growing restaurant chain leases space at redeveloped LI center

David Winzelberg

Tony’s Tacos, a growing chain of restaurants on Long Island, is coming to The Shops at SunVet in Holbrook.

The chain leased a 4,400-square-foot restaurant space on a pad site at the redeveloped 168,000-square-foot shopping complex at 5801 Sunrise Highway, formerly known as the SunVet Mall.

The new Holbrook restaurant will be Tony’s Tacos fifth Long Island location, following others in Floral Park, Franklin Square, Huntington and Garden City.

Tony’s Tacos is an Italian-inspired taqueria with a menu of more than 40 tacos, as well as bowls, salads, quesadillas, sides and frozen margaritas. The restaurant’s unique taco options include Short Rib Peter Luger, Chicken Parm, Smoked Salmon, Mushroom Risotto and a Surf & Turf taco.

In 2023, Syosset-based Blumenfeld Development Group entered into a joint venture with Jacksonville, Fla.-based Regency Centers, which holds the majority interest in the JV and oversees leasing and operations at the 18-acre redeveloped Holbrook complex.

Anchored by a 40,000-square-foot Whole Foods Market, the new Shops at SunVet will also be home to a 26,780-square-foot Nordstrom Rack and many other tenants, including Starbucks, Mogu Modern Chinese Kitchen, Aspen Dental, and branches for Teachers Federal Credit Union, Wells Fargo and Citibank, among others.

Anthony Russo of the Breslin Organization represented Tony’s Tacos and the landlord Regency Centers was self-represented in the Holbrook lease transaction.
