LIBN: Walmart opening 1st Neighborhood Market on LI

Discount retail giant Walmart will open one of its smaller, grocery-only stores in Levittown on July 10.

It will be the first of the chain’s Neighborhood Markets in New York.

The 49,000-square-foot Neighborhood Market in the Levittown Mews shopping center was formerly occupied by Waldbaums. The location is less than 2 miles from a full-service Walmart on Newbridge Road in East Meadow.

That Walmart couldn’t offer food and groceries because it shares the property with a Stop & Shop supermarket, and Walmart executives agreed to a clause in the lease from landlord Breslin Realty that restricted food.
