LIBN: Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace opens Friday in Bohemia

Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace at Sayville Plaza in Bohemia will open its 39,000-square-foot Italian specialty grocer on Friday at 5181 Sunrise Highway.

The specialty store, the company’s 12th, is known for its selection of meat and house-made Italian sausage. Its deli serves traditional Italian dishes, and the produce section offers domestic, imported and organic fruits and vegetables. The seafood counter features live lobsters and freshly caught seafood. The store also offers Italian baked goods, cheeses, candy and pasta.

“Bohemia is a community that values family, hard work and great food, and that is exactly who we are,” Mike Nelson, president of Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace, which is headquartered in Melville, told LIBN.

“We are honored to open our doors here this Friday, to serve our neighbors with the freshest ingredients, recipes made from scratch and the warm hospitality that has defined Uncle Giuseppe’s for decades,” Nelson said.

Uncle Giuseppe’s, which has specialty markets across New York and New Jersey and eight on Long Island, is in growth mode. The company plans to open an additional market in Greenvale in early 2026 and another in Levittown later next year.

To accommodate that growth, the company aims to hire a total of 1,000 employees. It is holding hiring events at its Long Island, Westchester and New Jersey locations on the first Saturday of every month.  During the hiring events, on-the-spot interviews will be offered for all positions in every location. Most stores will interview from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The East Meadow and Port Washington locations will interview from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The company seeks to hire in multiple departments, including bakery, prepared foods, deli, meat, seafood, produce, grocery, catering and front end. Candidates should bring a resume and “share how you would create a warm guest experience and take pride in quality and freshness,” according to a news release.

Now, the company, which opened its first store in 2001 in East Meadow, is geared up for the holidays. For Thanksgiving, it is touting its prepared sides, a variety of stuffings and other dishes, and includes packages for three-to-four people as well as party trays.

The company also ships its sauces and gift boxes across the United States via Gold Belly.

The shop’s additional New York locations include East Meadow, Massapequa, Melville, North Babylon, Port Jefferson, Port Washington, Smithtown and Yorktown Heights. In New Jersey, the shop has locations in Morris Plains, Ramsey and Tinton Falls.
