LIBN: Umberto’s to open new Farmingdale restaurant

by David Winzelberg

Umberto’s of New Hyde Park, a Long Island pizza and Italian cuisine staple, will soon be opening another restaurant.

The chain leased a 2,855-square-foot restaurant space in the Airport Plaza shopping center at 110 Conklin St. in Farmingdale. The space was formerly occupied by Bellagio Pizza.

The Farmingdale eatery will be the sixth on Long Island for Umberto’s of New Hyde Park, following its flagship location at 633 Jericho Turnpike in New Hyde Park, and others in Massapequa Park, Manhasset, Bellmore and Lake Grove.

The chain was established in New Hyde Park in 1965, when a slice of pizza was just 20 cents. It’s known for classic Italian entrees, fresh pastas and signature pizzas, including the grandma pie which originated at Umberto’s.

Anthony Russo of Breslin Organization represented Umberto’s, while Tom Pira served as in-house representative for the landlord, Kimco Realty, in the Farmingdale lease transaction.
